Flat Rock Village Council keeps tax rate steady for FY 2026-2027 budget

Flat Rock, North Carolina, June 16, 2026—The Flat Rock Village Council at their June 11 monthly council meeting unanimously approved their FY 2026-2027 budget totaling $3.130 million, with the tax rate remaining at 11.9 cents per $100 valuation. The tax rate is estimated to bring in approximately $1.811 million for FY 2026-2027, with additional revenue coming from local sales tax and various utility tax disbursements.

“In spite of the county increase, the village plans to keep our tax rate flat,” stated Vice Mayor Matt Toner, who serves as the village budget officer. “We try to budget conservatively so that we can cover these types of challenges.”

Fire protection comprises the largest budget expenditure, with village-collected taxes funding Blue Ridge, Valley Hill, and Green River fire and rescue departments, each of which covers various sections of the village. Total fire protection costs for the village are rising to $1.747 million for FY 2026-2027.

Other areas of expense are village administration and the Park at Flat Rock as well as various village programs. As is customary, Village Council members have waived any compensation. Since Flat Rock’s incorporation in 1995, Council members have served as volunteers to the village.
